What is Fondant?

Fondant or often also known as sugar paste is the name of a soft, pasty gum paste, which is used for manufacturing various confectionery. It can be used to decorate cakes and cookies or to cover them. It is a soft modeling clay, which becomes white in his production. However you can color the Fondant with food coloring as desired.  There are different kind of Fondants, which is used for different purposes. We differentiate from sugar paste and Sugar paste Flowers. No matter what Fondant you do the main ingredient is icing sugar.

To place a fondant on the cake you have to prepare a Butter cream.This cream consists mainly of butter. You can vary the cream slightly and can taste fruity, chocolaty, or nutty. You can let your imagination run wild. It knows no limits. In order to decorate cookies with Fondant you need sugar glue. It can be made of water with icing sugar or CMC.



Topping



Besides the use of Fondant you can also Glaze a cake. A liquid Glaze is made of chocolate. Whether black or white couverture chocolate is completely up to you. The candy is coated with a chocolate shell and will be outside crispy and chocolatey. You can for example decorate cakes, cake pops or muffins.
With a Royal Icing you can decorate the candy. As already mentioned, you can even dyed colourful the dough with food coloring in order to escape the monotony.
The so-called
Frosting is used mostly for cupcakes.
Icing sugar, granulated sugar, chocolate or fruit essence: The ability to vary the Frosting is large. Popular Frosting recipes are with cream cheese.
